Bank refusing to give passbook

Hi,

I am a Canara Bank customer from a long time. Today, I went to the branch at Lavelle Road, Bangalore (IFSC code: CNRB0000887) to update my passbook. Since my passbook had only one blank page left out, I had to request for a new passbook. This branch told me that I have to go to my base branch, which is 500 KM away from Bangalore, to get a new passbook. I spoke to the branch manager, and he also says that I have to travel 500 KM, go to the base branch, and get the new passbook. Does it sound right? Just to get a new passbook, one has to travel several hundred kilometers? As a customer of the Bank, do I have any right to question this?
