Airtel 4G service not available but charging rental

Location/place: Bangalore

Name of company/service: Airtel

I purchased a 4G wireless modem from Airtel after a demo was given to me at my office (IISc). Along with the purchase of the modem, I agreed to a rental plan of about Rs 1000 per month.

However, after I installed the modem, there was no coverage and I was unable to use the modem. I informed Airtel about the technical problem and they sent an engineer who confirmed that there was no coverage and that they would require 90 days to rectify the problem (email attached).

I did mention on the telephone that it is unfair for Airtel to charge me rental if ther eis no service provided. However, I have been receiving notices to pay the rental and even phone calls & letters & emails & SMS messages threatening legal action. Below is a sample email exchange.

Hi Helpdesk,
Ref: Airtel mobile number: 9972317801

I have purchased the Huawei wifi Modem from Airtel and obtained a 4G connection
with the above number.
However, after the demo, where it worked, there is no coverage for 4G.
I have informed Airtel about it and the technical people have visited the site
and found no coverage.

I would request you not to bill me until the coverage issue is resolved. I
assure you that I will pay if I use the service.
