Airlines must compensate passengers for delays

We, a group of 6 persons purchased air tickets in 2 phases. In first phase, Indigo flight- 11am from Srinagar to Delhi domestic terminal on 13-06-2012 and in the second phase,Air India flight-8pm Delhi International terminal to Kolkata airport on the same day. Due to Indigo flight late by 7.5 hours, we were bound to cancel the 8pm Air India flight ticket. For this flight delay, we spent a painful night at Delhi airport with family and financial loss for cancellation of tickets, food etc. etc. Airlines must compensate for such passengers for delay.
