Did I pay 18 thousand to Railways for horrible services?

Dear Sir/Madam,

We live in Singapore and on our India trip wanted the kids to travel by Train for India experience, but it has turned into a nightmare.

We have had horrible experience waiting for the train, journey is not pleasant either and now I am going to lose one working day by arriving late. Why should the railway not refund the huge money they charged from me? Additionally, shouldn’t they be asked to pay “inconvenience penalty” for horrible experience?

To avail confirmed ticket at convenient time of departing Varanasi in the evening and arriving early morning in Kolkata I paid INR 17,920 for 2 adults and 2 kids.

On this horribly hot day in Varanasi, the train arrived post midnight. The railways information system was horrible which kept informing that train is just a little bit delayed, and right at the end there was no information and one had to wait standing on the platform. Imagine yourself sweating and standing in that situation with all luggage and two sleepy cranky kids.

Once in the train, the compartment floor is horribly dirty, the toilet doesn’t have soap… now I wanted to connect with nivaran.railway.gov.in for lodging the complain, but the site is unavailable. I had sent some tweets to railways tweeter handle, but no response, can’t complain about that though.

Here are my booking details:
