Fleeced by Medanta Medicity, Gurgaon

Big brand name does not necessarily mean a quality product/service. I realized this again when I visited Medanta Medicity, Gurgaon yesterday to seek doctor’s advice on the pain in the 2nd toe neck line of my right foot. I got appointment of Dr. Balwinder Rana with a fancy title of foot and ankle injury specialist after paying 800/- bucks. He advised me to get an x-ray done (900/- bucks). However, since this was never a bone injury, the x-ray revealed nothing. He then asked me to get an MRI done without even thinking about any other problem that could cause this pain apart from bone injury. I walked out of the hospital without getting this test done as it was too expensive (around 10000/- as told by the billing desk) for the pain I was suffering. I felt so much helpless anger within myself of being looted for two and half hours and got nothing in return from the hospital. I was wondering how unprofessional and insensitive these hospitals have become many of which have got land and other facilities at absurd cheap rates from government. How can poor even think of entering such hospitals.
I do not understand what sort of practice/training such doctor’s go through who can’t even use their experience to figure out the diagnosis? The idealist can argue that without tests how can a doctor identify the diagnosis correctly? This may be true but on case to case basis. In most of the simple cases the doctor should be able to diagnose the problem may be after getting some basic tests done like an x-ray in may case, but an MRI? definitely not! It is clear that only money is the criteria of treatment for these hospitals. The thumb rule of such big hospitals is to extract as much money as possible from the patients in the name of tests.
I can’t think of any solution to this problem? Can you?
